Cathy Davey (IE)
She is an unconventional singer-songwriter from Ireland; the local press call her “Ireland’s Björk” while some reviewers go as far as to likening her to PJ Harvey, even Joni Mitchell. Coming from a Dublin artistic family background, her father is a composer and mother a sculptor. She signed her recording contract ten years ago and has made three records to date. Her albums have been successful in the artistic as well as in the commercial sense: they all became platinum while the latest, The Nameless (2010) was Ireland’s fastest-selling record of the week of release.
Cathy Davey has won two nominations for the Choice Music Prize and received Meteor Music Prize for Ireland’s best female vocalist of 2008. She has performed at many major events, e.g. at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen (NL) and at the famous South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. She has been invited as a musical guest for such musical greats like Graham Coxon, R.E.M and Supergrass.
