Dánjal (DK)

Although the band is generally considered to be Danish, it consists of musicians nearly from all Scandinavia: they come from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the Faroe Islands. The band’s frontman is Danjal á Neystabø, a “manic storyteller at the piano” from the islands named above. His lyrics are abundant in humor and irony; he is not afraid to take an “incorrect” stance nearly on everything.

In terms of music, Dánjal songs are a mix of rock and folk music with elements of the Balkans and klezmer. In spite of its rather short life, the band has released two albums: The Palace (2010) and The Bubble (2012). In the time between the records, Dánjal appeared at the WOMEX prestigious music fair and played at Colours of Ostrava last year.
